I liked this short story that is a cross between the prince and the pauper and beauty and the beast with a special twist on the roses. The ending has one of the cutest proposals I've read about in a long time.

I loved reading this story! I didn't want to put it down! Some day I hope a movie is made!
I've read and enjoyed several retellings of "Beauty and the Beast" (including Robin McKinley's lovely novel "Rose Daughter") but this story somehow shakes the familiar elements into a fresh and surprising cocktail. Equal parts Arabian Nights, Jane Austen, and Charles Dickens, "Transparency" is a romance, sure, but more than that, this is a story about the friends we choose and the courage it takes to challenge them.
